How to fix Black Level (lens flare) problems on 55″ Rear Projection Philips TV?
Hello,
I have a Philips 55″ Rear Projection Widescreen TV. I have had this TV for 5 years and it works fairly well. I have noticed that the black level has diminished in the recent past. Basically when something light is on the screen next to something dark you can see a halo effect of whitish areas around the light object on the screen. It is most pronounced when the contrast is the highest between a light object and a dark object. Upon doing a little research it seems that my problem revolves around lens flare. I found a site http://www.dgibbons.members.sonic.net/essay7.html that describes how to fix this problem and was hoping I could get some insight from somebody before I attempted to fix this problem. I am a little weary because overall the picture is good and I don’t want to make my problem any larger. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Its a crappy tv. Very surprized it has lasted 5 years.
It probably has contaminated coolant in the picture tubes. Thats what philips is most known for.
I read the article; but your gonna mess it up trying to do so.

Learn Digital Photography – Telephoto Lens For Landscapes
The vast majority of landscape photography is done with wide angle lenses. Among their uses is capturing wide and dramatic panoramas. Often, however, the scene’s grandeur and majesty doesn’t compress well into a single photograph.
After you have shot some wide-angle images, do photographically what your eyes do – zoom in on a component of the scene. There are always additional subjects within a photograph so put on a longer focal length lens then shoot some detail. These shots will have impact since telephoto lenses tend to compress distance to record details a wide-angle lens cannot.
Use your tripod! Long focal lengths amplify any camera shake so lock down the camera and tripod. Don’t introduce shake with your shutter finger but instead consider using a remote shutter release or self timer to trigger the shutter.
Look at the other photographers – they’re stuck on wide-angle lens and won’t get the impactful images you’re getting!
What and Why
It’s extremely rare to see a cloudless McKinley. This photograph was taken by a Nikon D700 camera through a Nikon 70-200mm lens at 105mm (which is about two times magnified). To get maximum clarity throughout the entire distance, I set the aperture at f/22 using the aperture priority setting plus to get the maximum detail I used a low ISO of 400. I used the “pattern” exposure setting with an exposure compensation of -0.7 to get more saturation. The camera selected a shutter speed of 1/180 second which, although slow, was acceptable since the camera was mounted on a Gitzo G-1410 tripod with a Really Right Stuff BH-55 ball head. I tripped the shutter with a release cable which required two squeezes since I used the mirror lock up to eliminate any possible camera movement.

DLP Projection lens replacement?
I bought a 50″ RCA DLP TV at a yard sale in near perfect condition, or so I thought. The picture is very blurry, to the point where I can’t watch or play anything in HD at all on it (watching cable is fine as it’s fuzzy as is). I took the TV apart to try to find the problem and I came across this lens that screws off, I’d say it’s about 3 inches in diameter. The problem is, after holding the lens up to the light, that the lens is very hazy and it seems to be inside the lens as it cant be cleaned off. If I were to describe exactly what it looks like, its like this rectangle image burned into the lens and it seems to slightly take on a different hues in light. To wrap this up I was wondering exactly what this thing is called and can it be replaced? Thanks in advance and sorry about all the details -.-
Try to go on ebay or google shopping and search for ‘model number here lens’
Obviously use the actual model number in your search. It should yield something. You can also try going to your local TV repair shop and ask them. You might need to look harder for them.
