Do you have to use a tripod with a Pinhole Camera?
If the light needs to come in for at least a second even in daylight, then surely I would have to always use a tripod?
I would really like to buy one for myself because of the cool effects it creates, but not if I’m not going to be able to take pics on impulse anywhere I go.
I am referring to a Holga Pinhole and not a self-made one
Holga or whatever, a pinhole camera requires long exposure and the camera MUST be stable, either on a tripod or other surface. As said, a pinhole camera is not designed for impulse snap shots. It is for CREATING an artistic photo with TIME and forethought. Get a point and shoot for your snapshots.

Pros
1. A light weight tripod will be very easy to carry. If you are moving your camera a good deal, you will not have to worry about the weight of your tripod being a hindrance.
2. Light weight tripods are perfect for small digital cameras.
3. You can easily put one or more light weight tripods in the trunk of your car or in the back seat without having to worry about the weight causing damage to any other items.
Cons
1. A light weight tripod may not effectively hold a heavier camera or a heavy lens. It could topple over.
Sony has some good tripods that fit the light weight category. One of them is Model No. VCT-R640. The tripod comes in a black finish, is adjustable in height, and enables you to quickly remove your camera and also easily change camera angles. It retails for about $24.95.
The Sony VCT-R100 is another adjustable tripod that can expand up to 39 inches in height and then can fold up to a mere 14 inches for easy storage. It has tilt correction and an adjustable three way Panhead. A carrying case is included with the purchase of this tripod, and it retails for approximately $35.00.
A Vista Explorer 60 Inch Tripod is perfect for cameras up to 4 pounds in weight. It also has a three way Panhead and is very easy to set up. The price is about $30.00. The tripod comes with a bag.
If you do not mind spending a bit more money, the Gitzo Mountaineer GT150 tripod retails for approximately $499.99. It is strong, sturdy, flexible and light weight. If you invest in a tripod such as this one, you will probably not need to purchase another tripod, as the Gitzo should meet all of your needs. It is made for those who travel a good deal and want a tripod they can rely on for good performance.
There are many tripods on the market, and a little bit of shopping and research will turn up the perfect one for you.

Should I carry a tripod during an african safari?
I am planning to go on a safari in Kenia and Tansania. I would like to know if carring a big tripod, is worth the hasle. or if I am better off traveling light.

I wouldn’t bother with it if I were you. You’ll want to be able to get around without much hassle, and besides, the less you have with you, the better.
Take a mosquito net to sleep under. And wear a hat.
