If you like looking at the sky if only occasionally gets some decent binoculars and enjoy a little binocular astronomy. Think about it, binoculars are inexpensive, very portable and require no complicated setting procedures that are ideal for casual astronomy.
Binoculars allow excellent moon views, and visualization of star fields, comets and even deep sky objects. They are especially useful for beginners as unlike astronomy telescopes to keep an eye on the right position, making it very easy to navigate through the heavens. With a little practice you can choose several of the planets and even large moons in orbit around Jupiter. Groups such as the Pleiades look great because the field of broad vision binoculars lets you have more of the group in sight while a telescope.
So how to choose which ones? Binoculars have two specifications marked on the body of the binoculars in the form of 7x 50, where the first number represents the increase (in this case 7 times) and the second opening in millimeters (50 mm in this case). When it comes to selecting the right binoculars for astronomy, openness is the most important feature to think about. The larger the aperture the more light is reflected in more brighter and clearer the image will be. For astronomy use you will need at least 40 mm aperture and preferably larger.
You will need a magnification factor of at least 7, maybe up to 10 if you have a steady hand. Any more than 10 times magnification and you have to mount your binoculars on a tripod as the effect of hand motion makes it difficult obtain a clear image.
There are giant binoculars available with higher increases and the openings that are designed for astronomy use but safe you need a sturdy tripod or mount to use them. These can offer an excellent view on the enlargement to 25 times with 100 mm aperture.
This will leads to another point, a specification known as the "exit pupil". This specification refers to the diameter of the shaft of light that leaves the eye and their eyes. Is easily calculated by dividing the opening of the extension so that 7 x 50 binocular has an exit pupil of just over 7 mm. The capture of the maximum amount that is good because it means that all the light available is to get where you want, ieyour eye. If still in his twenties you can probably use all 7mm exit pupils above, the pupils dilate to the size, in very dark conditions, however as you get older the pupil does not dilate more than about 4 to 5 mm exit pupils are wasted large (though begins making 25x 100, look good!).
You may notice other specifications marked in the binocular field of view (FOV) refers to the apparent side view as you look through the binoculars. It is expressed as an angle in degrees or one feet measured as the 340 to 1000 meters. To use astronomy usually can ignore that factor, it really does not matter much in the distances that we will be watching.
